Ebook About
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • For the first time, rock music’s most famous muse tells her incredible story “A charming, lively and seductive book . . . The appeal of Wonderful Tonight is as self-evident as the seemingly simple but brash opening chord of ‘A Hard Day’s Night.’”—The New York Times Book Review Pattie Boyd, former wife of both George Harrison and Eric Clapton, finally breaks a forty-year silence and tells the story of how she found herself bound to two of the most addictive, promiscuous musical geniuses of the twentieth century and became the most legendary muse in the history of rock and roll. The woman who inspired Harrison’s song “Something” and Clapton’s anthem “Layla,” Pattie Boyd has written a book that is rich and raw, funny and heartbreaking—and totally honest.

Book Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me Review :

Don't know what I was expecting, I guess I wondered what, exactly, all the fuss was about, way back when. So Boyd, while not entirely dull, isn't exactly the sharpest pencil in the box. With an achingly British horror story of a childhood. But she's drop dead gorgeous, and she knows it (humble brag insecure about her looks, yada yada yada aside.) Lands her little bird bum into modeling with the likes of Jane Asher and Twiggy. Meets Harrison on the set of HDN, lavish life style, drugs, ersatz spirituality. But boo hoo, George is moody because creativity and stuff. And he screws around with Ringo's wife. (Try to get that picture out of your head.) Meanwhile Clapton the god is writing the loveliest awful poetry, and when la Boyd spurns him, he runs off to his mansion to sulk and do heroin and write Layla. Seeing this behavior, she concludes this is obviously a sound basis for a strong lasting relationship. She divorces Harrison, Clapton kicks heroin. And becomes an alcoholic. They eventually marry, he becomes a moody and controlling and promiscuous drunk 'cause you know, creativity. She finally gets it through her still pretty blond head that the marriage is over when Erik has a kid with somebody else. She claims she got stingy divorce settlements, but seems to always have nice digs, beautiful clothes, spectacular travel locations, and innumerable air kiss friends with whom she seems to endlessly party. Apparently never quite sure, or concerned with, who's picking up the tab. Poverty in third world locations is acknowledged as perfectly horrid, then juxtaposed with the wonderful down to earth time drinking champagne and eating French cheese on some mountain top above the poverty. So folks, that's Layla.
So here is this lovely woman whom you'd think had it all. But her life isn't really so unusual except for the men to whom she was married. Many of us had tragic childhoods. Hers was lonely (except she has great siblings when she gets to see them) and her parents basically abandoned her. Okay, so get therapy as have the rest of us. I'm not saying I have no pity, but she comes across as very "Me Me Me" and since the book is about her, I suppose that's her right. What I do respect is that it seems she eventually, more or less, learned the lessons of codependency and did something about it. I'm really glad Eric Clapton got sober. I'd like to read his biography and see where he's coming from. Will always love George Harrison and it really is a shame the 60s set up so many marriages for failure with the culture of "you can have it all" drugs and sex. Which we've now learned through our/my parents isn't all it's cracked up to be. Pattie is my mother's age, so I see her much as I see my own mother. I guess other than that, I'm terribly sorry she never was able to have children. She's probably a super great Auntie though! I bet she's a lot of fun to be around and I'd love to visit her garden. I like her better as she ages and matures. Then again, same could be said for self. And there it is. I liked the book all 'round and would say it's worth a read if you're a fan of the gents in question or the era. Would have liked to have seen more modeling pics, but I always like art. I bet her early London outfits were lots of fun!
